Title: Packing Peanuts
I chose Packing peanuts by Chris Jordan because I really enjoy his technique. I think its interesting how he uses thousands of the same object collaged together in order to convey a certain message. When I first saw these images I was overwhelmed by the statistics these images were trying to convey. This image in particular depicts 166,000 packing peanuts which represents the number of overnight packages shipped by air in the US in one hour!
I agree that his images are cool (I especially like the one with light bulbs), but, in the end, I feel like he's trying to manipulate me with a cheap gimmick instead of a well-reasoned argument. The images also seem self-righteous and didactic (Tammy chose the perfect word). I get it; humans can be incredibly wasteful, and they make decisions that Jordan doesn't like.
